The Real Chief of Urbana

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ilccgs/cemeteries/pioneer.html

His name was Chief Shemauger and his body lies at Leal Park. From what I have read, Chief Shemauger would be one of those bodies unclaimed, markers buried and bodies left to be trampled over at Leal Park. (read about it at the link above)

Today there is nothing at Leal Park to honor the original natives and pioneers buried there, unclaimed by family.

Yes, there may be a Shemauger Park, but what about the man? Should there not be a memorial setup at Leal for those who brought Urbana to reality?

Some here want to cry and whine about an imagined chief illiniwek, meanwhile, not bringing the respect to the real Chief, Shemauger, who should be recognized for signing the treaty which led to the University of Illinois in the first place.

More to come on this.

My poor little unattended blog

Okay. It's time to get real with this blogging thing. Lots to learn. Sorry little blog that I have left you unattended for a couple years. So this is a new day, new era, new president hurrahhh!! Hope is alive. Therefore, I begin.

Part time job with a local media outlet is okay. I look forward to going to work each day so far, even though it is mindless for the most part. I find difficulties in what is considered news though. This is where I struggle there.

Perhaps one story at a time, what I find interesting, go with that, here in my blog world.

So my next post will begin my first big story.
